New joiners at Arup’s Advanced Digital Engineering (ADE) Skills Week in Solihull, England

Jason Cooper

I’m a new graduate who’s joined Arup as a Software Developer in the Advanced Digital Engineering (ADE) Software Team in London. I’ve recently completed a BSc in Computer Science at the Open University. Before my time at university, I was a CAD engineer in the marine engineering industry working on production and interior design challenges. The transition to software was driven by a personal need to develop digital solutions that help individuals through the difficulties of chronic health condition management. I’m excited to work at Arup as I am passionate about digital technologies that directly help those who navigate the built environment. I’m looking forward to learning about new technologies and how they can be utilised effectively within Arup.

I’m a UX and UI designer in the ADE Software Team in London. By background, I am a graphic designer and an information designer. Right before joining Arup as a grad, I graduated from the Royal College of Art, in London, with an MA in Information Experience Design, and before that, with an MA in visual communication from the École Nationale Supérieure d’Art et de Design de Nancy, in France. I’m excited to be joining Arup because it’s not everyday that, as a designer, the opportunity to work in such an environment and being in contact with people from such diverse backgrounds presents itself. I’m also very excited by the diversity of work that can come from being in this environment.

Technology always has been an integral part of my life; understanding this, I enrolled at Keele University and graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science. During my time at university I undertook placements in the Manchester office and got to know the software development team, eventually joining the Manchester team in September as a full-time Graduate Software Consultant with a background in web development and Java programming. Throughout my life, I have had a keen interest in computer gaming. I’ve followed the industry as it has established itself as a growing giant in the digital world. Having joined ADE I have been excited to bring this interest and knowledge to the company in hopes to help drive Arup further into the digital market. One such example is utilising virtual reality technology and video game engines to bring visualisation scenes to life and provide users, clients and colleagues with immersive virtual experiences. I believe such technology has vast potential in the company and I am grateful for the opportunity to work with it through ADE.
